321Chorus
321Chorus is designed to be a private, lightweight, device-first voice recording app for coordinated and individual speaking tasks.
Coming soon for iPhone
Simple on-device voice filters
Tasks can be set up to allow in-app editing
of pauses, pitch, reverb, etc.
These audio edits are made using your own device; no AI or cloud service is used.
Want to practice oral speaking tasks and make use of small adjustments, while keeping your recordings on your device and under your control?

321Chorus allows you to coordinate the recording of audio on more than one device at a time. The app is small, uses peer communications to coordinate the timing of the recordings and it is completely free – there are no in-app purchases and there are no accounts.  Each recording stays on each individual's device unless they choose to share it.
No central server.  No log-in.
No recordings shared unless you share/export them yourself.
The app's storage is sandboxed, meaning the voice recordings are not automatically added to your device's main file library.

It is designed to allow you to stay in control of the recordings you share.
What is not shared?
Recordings made with 321Chorus can only be reviewed within the app on the device used for making the recording unless your share the audio file.
  • No central server collects recordings
  • There is no remote gallery of your recordings
What is shared between devices?
When other people near you are using 321Chorus, it will automatically exchange the minimal information in order to coordinate a synchronized recording session:
  • participant/device display names
  • ready or not-ready state
  • microphone ready or not-ready state
  • preparation and  recording timing information

What kinds of speaking tasks might it work well for?
Perhaps:
  • zero preparation time spontaneous talks
  • tasks with preparation time where the prompt is made visible immediately
  • individual rehearsals of presentations or speeches
  • class sessions where the teacher initiates the task and students all talk into their own devices at the same time.
  • recordings and tasks for any language; the UI is English, but prompts and recordings should work for any language..
Because 321Chorus uses a peer-based timing mechanism, it is best seen as a fun, informal addition rather than a replacement for alternative tools and services for important formal assessments.
Who might want to use 321Chorus?
By sharing your task topics with your group, you can set up sessions with control over when the prompt is shown.
For example:
  • A teacher shares a task with a group of students, giving 1 minute preparation time and 2 minutes of recording.
  • Two students helping each other to prepare for an oral speaking examination come up with topics to test each other, sharing the task prompt, but keeping their own recordings on their own devices.
