321Burst is designed to be a private, lightweight, device-first camera app for coordinated group photo capture.
Our privacy approach
321Burst is built to keep your photos under your control.
What 321Burst does
- Captures photos on your own device
- Stores captured photos in the app’s private sandboxed storage
- Lets you view, preview, select, delete, and share those photos manually
What 321Burst does not do
- Does not upload your photos to any server
- Does not use cloud storage
- Does not send your photos to the developer
- Does not automatically save your photos to your system Photos library
- Does not transmit your photos to other participants’ devices
- Does not create an account for you
- Does not require login
- Does not sell your data
- No central server
321Burst is designed without a photo storage backend.
That means:
- there is no central server collecting your captured images
- there is no account-based photo sync
- there is no remote gallery of your images
- If you capture a photo using 321Burst, that photo stays on your device unless you choose to share/export it yourself.
How devices communicate
When people use 321Burst together in a session, the app may exchange only the minimal information needed to coordinate the capture experience, such as:
- participant/device display names
- ready/not-ready state
- camera-ready state
- capture timing information
This coordination is used only so the group can prepare and trigger a shot together.
321Burst does not send the actual captured photo files between devices.
Sharing is always user-controlled
If you want a photo outside the app, you must choose to share/export it yourself.
For example, you may use the iOS share sheet to:
- save a copy to Photos
- send it by AirDrop
- send it in Messages or Mail
- upload it to another app or storage service you choose
These actions happen only when you explicitly choose them.
Private local storage
Photos captured in 321Burst are stored in the app’s own private storage area on your device.
This means:
- they are available inside 321Burst
- they are not automatically visible in Apple Photos
- they remain separate unless you manually export/share them
Deleting photos
You can delete individual photos, selected photos, or all privately stored photos from within 321Burst.
Deleting a photo from 321Burst removes it from the app’s private storage.
If you previously shared or exported a copy elsewhere, that external copy is not affected.
Permissions
321Burst may request camera access so that you can capture photos or scan a Same Wi-Fi host's QR code.
If you deny camera access, camera features will not work.
321Burst does not need an account to function.
Children and families
321Burst is intended as a simple group photo tool. If children use the app, they should do so with appropriate supervision based on age and local expectations.
Changes
If the app’s privacy behavior changes in the future, this privacy statement should be updated to reflect that clearly.
321Burst FAQ
1) Why doesn't the app work everywhere with everyone?
321Burst has no cloud server, so its network discovery mechanisms are heavily influenced by the Wi-Fi and other networks in the area, as well as your devices' own preferences for network communication.
This means it works best:
- When the devices of both host and peers are frequently used together (e.g. through Apple Family Sharing , shared Personal Hotspots);
- When using the app in a relatively "quiet" networking environment.
It means that some locations and groupings may not work because:
- The local network discovery system has multiple competing networks;
- The Wi-Fi provider for the Same Wi-Fi mode does not allow peer-to-peer communciations;
- Other network traffic makes the discovery and triggering of photos too slow for synchronized actions.
2) If it doesn't always work, why should I try the app?
Well, if there is interest in the app and you feel it (sometimes) provides useful functions for interesting group photo moments, more development could go into trying to overcome some of its current shortcomings. But ultimately, the app is freely available and only takes up around 6MB of storage (excluding the photos you take with it). So, perhaps it is worth trying it out!
3) Does 321Burst upload my photos anywhere?
No.
321Burst does not upload your photos to a developer server, cloud backend, or central database.
Your photos stay on your own device unless you decide to share/export them yourself.
4) Are photos sent to other people in the session?
No.
321Burst coordinates timing and readiness between devices, but it does not send the captured photo files to other participants.
Each device captures and stores its own photo locally.
5) Does 321Burst save photos to my iPhone Photos app?
Not automatically.
321Burst stores photos in its own private in-app storage. If you want a copy in Apple Photos, you can use the share sheet and choose that yourself.
6) If every person has their own photo, how do we gather them together?
The simplest way is for each participant to share/export their chosen images manually after the event.
Common ways to combine everyone’s photos include:
- AirDrop to one organizer’s device
- sending images in Messages, Mail, or another messaging app
- uploading to a shared folder in a cloud service chosen by the group
- importing everything into a video or slideshow editor
321Burst intentionally does not do this automatically, because the app is designed to stay private and sandboxed.
7) What’s the best way for a group to use 321Burst?
A good workflow is:
- One person acts as the leader
- Everyone joins the same session
- Everyone opens the in-app camera and becomes Camera Ready
- The leader triggers the synchronized capture
- Afterward, each person reviews their own private photos
- The group manually shares the best images into one place if desired
This works well for:
- mini celebrations
- student activities
- family gatherings
- team moments
- casual events
8) How can we combine all the photos into one collection or one video?
321Burst does not assemble a combined gallery or video itself.
Instead, after capture:
- each participant selects the images they want
- each participant shares them to one organizer or a common destination
- the group uses another app to combine them
Possible follow-up tools include:
- Apple Photos shared album workflows
- iMovie
- CapCut
- Clips
- Canva
- any collage, slideshow, or video editor the group prefers
A practical method is:
- choose one person as the collector
- everyone AirDrops or shares their best 1–5 photos
- the collector assembles them into an album, collage, slideshow, or short celebratory video
9) Why doesn’t 321Burst collect everyone’s photos automatically?
Because privacy is a core design choice.
Automatic collection would require:
- file transfer between devices
- central storage or more complex syncing
- more permissions and more privacy concerns
321Burst is intentionally designed to be:
- small
- simple
- private
- user-controlled
10) Can I delete all photos from the app?
Yes.
321Burst includes tools to delete selected photos or remove all privately stored photos from the app’s sandboxed storage.
This affects only the copies stored inside 321Burst.
If you previously exported or shared a photo elsewhere, that external copy will remain there.
11) Does 321Burst require an account or sign-in?
No.
321Burst does not require account creation or login to use its core features.
12) Why is the app free?
321Burst is free because it was created in a spirit of usefulness and fun.
The developer has been a teacher for over 25 years and thought it would be enjoyable to make a simple app for mini-celebrations, group moments, and shared events.
The goal is for 321Burst to be:
- tiny in footprint
- freely available
- free to use
- simple and private by design

13) Is 321Burst for professional photography workflows?
Not really.
321Burst is best thought of as a lightweight coordinated capture tool for fun, educational, social, and small-group use.
If you need:
- centralized media management
- automatic cloud sync
- professional multi-camera production pipelines
then other tools may be more suitable.
14) What if we want the best results as a group?
A few simple tips:
- make sure everyone opens the app before starting
- ensure everyone is marked Camera Ready
- use a short countdown only if all devices are prepared
- ask participants to hold devices steady
- decide in advance who will collect the shared images afterward
- after the event, each participant shares only their best shots
This keeps the process simple and avoids confusion.
